The season is over for bobsledders and skeleton pilots. The unbeatable American this year was (surprise) not Zach Lund!
The reigning World Cup skeleton champion ended up third for the season by a mere 1/100 of a point. The results on the circuit had been so close that the title would be decided in the World Cup final race, on a track Lund has always considered his weakest link: Winterburg, Germany. "This track is my enigma," Lund said in a press release.
This year's World Cup crown was won by Britain's Kristan Bromley. Canada's Jon Montgomery was third.
In the women's field, Katie Uhlaender won her second consecutive World Cup crown and is now the defending world champion. Canada's Michelle Kelly was second, followed by her teammate in third, Mellisa Hollingsworth.
In women's bobsled, Shauna Rohbock and Valerie Fleming ended up fourth in the World Cup rankings, as did last year's champion Steve Holcomb. Both Rohbock and Holcomb spent the season dealing with painful groin pulls, which never got the chance to recover because each race strained the same ligaments again.
