Bomber Babes, Death Dealers Face Off in SCDG Finale
It’s down to one last game.
On Saturday evening, Sept. 22, the undefeated Death Dealers will try to keep their streak alive against the Bomber Babes in the Salt City Derby Girls’ league championship bout at the Kearns Olympic Oval.
When the teams faced each other earlier in the season, the Dealers held off a late charge by the Bombers to win 83-75 in front of a heavily pro-Bombers crowd.
The matchup, which starts at 7:00 p.m., will feature the two highest scoring players in the league; N.O.S. of the Bombers (38 points in the teams’ first matchup) and the Dealers’ Lady Shatterly (29 points). Watch for N.O.S and Bombers captain Honey DeLunatic to take on most of the Bombers’ jamming duties, while Lady Shatterly and The Last Rocker will be called upon to carry most of the load for the Dealers.
With the jammer position talent on each team, blocking efforts will be crucial. Dealers captain Lady Octane, originally a jammer until a knee injury forced her out of playing that position on a regular basis, has taken that opportunity to become one of the league’s hardest hitters. Genocide Jenny and Miss Discipline will round out the defensive backbone for the Dealers.
For the Bombers, pivot Red Suzy is a commanding pack leader, while Gunnin’ Geisha and Dominican Destroyah seek out opposing jammers with big hits. Communication and teamwork among pivots and blockers will be a deciding factor in what promises to be a close, exciting bout.
Lady Octane summed up how the Death Dealers are approaching this matchup at a recent team meeting: “If you’re not ready to lay it all out there on the track, don’t even bother showing up.”
